Estimates & Pricing

  • Is the estimate really free?

Yes. We'll assess the damage or project scope, check for underlying issues like moisture or structural concerns, identify your existing texture for matching, and give you a clear, written quote, no surprises or hidden fees.

  • Do you charge by the hour or by the project?

We price by the project, not the hour, so you know the full cost upfront before any work begins.

  • Does homeowner's insurance cover drywall or plaster repair?

Often, yes, especially when the damage comes from a sudden event like a burst pipe, roof leak, or storm. Gradual wear and tear typically isn't covered. We can provide documentation and photos to support your claim.

  • Do you offer a better rate for bundling multiple repairs?

Yes. If you have several problem areas, whether from a renovation, water damage, or general wear, we can give you a discount when we bundle them into one visit and one project price.

  • Do you require a deposit to schedule work?

Yes, we require a 33% deposit to schedule your project and secure materials. The remaining balance is due upon completion, and we'll walk you through all pricing details upfront so there are no surprises.

  • Should I just go with the cheapest bid?

Not always. A lower price can sometimes mean rushed prep work, mismatched texture, lower-quality materials, or a repair that doesn't hold up, and fixing that down the road often ends up costing more than paying for the job done right the first time. When comparing quotes, look beyond the bottom-line number and ask what's actually included: proper drying time between coats, texture matching, cleanup, licensing and insurance, and a workmanship guarantee. The lowest bid isn't always the best value once you factor in the long-term cost of redoing the work.

Scheduling & Timing

  • How long does a typical repair take?

Small holes and cracks are often finished in a single visit. Larger repairs need time between coats of joint compound to dry properly, which usually means a 2-3 day process for the best results.

  • How far in advance should I book my project?

For standard repairs, we typically schedule within a few days to a week. Larger projects, full-room painting, or jobs requiring special materials may need more lead time, so booking early is always a good idea, especially during busier seasons.

  • Can you do same-day service?

Same-day service is often available for smaller jobs like minor holes, cracks, or nail pops, depending on your location and our schedule. Call early in the day for the best chance.

  • Do I need to be home during the repair?

Not for the whole job, but we do ask someone be available at the start to walk through the scope of work with our team.

  • What's your busiest time of year?

Spring and early summer tend to be our busiest seasons, as homeowners tackle projects after winter and prepare for warmer weather. We also see a rise in water-damage repairs after freeze-thaw cycles in late winter. Booking a few weeks ahead during these periods helps ensure timely scheduling.

  • Will bad weather delay my project?

Since we work indoors, weather rarely affects most of our projects. However, severe weather can occasionally impact travel or timing, and we'll always communicate proactively if that's the case.

  • How quickly can you start after I approve a quote?

Once a quote is approved, we typically schedule your project within a few days to a week, depending on current demand and the scope of work involved.

Painting

  • How long does interior painting take?

Most single rooms are completed in a day, while full-home interior painting typically takes 2-5 days depending on square footage, number of colors, and prep work needed.

  • Do I need to move my furniture before you paint?

We ask that small items and valuables be cleared from the room, but we handle moving larger furniture to the center of the room and covering it for protection.

  • How many coats of paint do you apply?

Most jobs require two coats for full, even coverage, though color changes (especially light to dark or vice versa) may need an additional coat or a tinted primer.

  • What paint brands and finishes do you use?

We only use professional-grade paint from Sherwin Williams and can help you choose the right finish, flat, eggshell, satin, or semi-gloss, based on the room's use and lighting.

  • Do you provide the paint, or do I need to buy it myself?

We can supply all paint and materials as part of your quote, or use paint you've already purchased, whichever works best for you.

  • Can you match an existing paint color?

Yes, we can color-match existing paint for touch-ups or partial repaints so the new work blends seamlessly.

  • Do you paint ceilings and trim, or just walls?

We handle walls, ceilings, trim, doors, and cabinets, whatever your project requires.

  • How soon can I use the room after painting?

Paint is typically dry to the touch within a few hours, but we recommend waiting 24 hours before hanging items or heavy use, and up to a week before washing walls.

Drywall Repair & Finishing

  • What types of drywall damage do you repair?

We'll handle holes of any size, cracks, water damage, nail and screw pops, sagging or bubbling drywall, seam failures, and full panel replacements.

  • Can you match my existing wall or ceiling texture?

Yes, texture matching is one of our specialties, covering knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel, smooth/Level 5 finishes, and popcorn textures. A repair that doesn't match texture is visible from across the room, which is exactly what we work to avoid.

  • What is drywall finishing?

Drywall finishing is the process of taping, mudding, and sanding seams smooth so the surface is ready for texture or paint. It's graded in six industry levels, and the right level depends on your paint sheen and lighting.

  • How do you handle water-damaged drywall?

Once the water source is confirmed fixed, we assess the extent of the damage, remove and replace any soft or crumbling sections, apply a stain-blocking primer, and finish with a texture-matched patch. Note: we don't perform mold remediation, if mold is present, we recommend a certified specialist address it first.

  • Do you repair damage caused by plumbers, electricians, or HVAC work?

Yes, this is one of our most common requests. After any trade opens up a wall or ceiling, we restore it to a seamless, paint-ready finish.

  • Do you remove popcorn ceilings?

Yes. Popcorn ceilings were once very popular, but are now considered outdated. You'll need to hire a qualified drywall specialist to gaurantee good results. Note that ceilings installed before 1978 may contain asbestos, so we recommend testing before removal in older homes.

  • How do I find a good drywall contractor?

Ask questions and read reviews before hiring. How long has the company been in business? Are their technicians experienced? How do they protect your home from dust while working? Do they do the proper prep work? Make sure they're licensed, fully insured, and provide a written estimate before starting.

Drywall repair projects often involve more than just patching a hole. Here are some of the problems we regularly fix:

    • Stress cracks from settling
    • Water damage
    • Hole patching and repair
    • Ceiling plaster repairs and texturing
    • Drywall repairs after wallpaper removal
    • Refinishing around electrical outlets and switches
    • New drywall installation and finishing
    • Texture matching
    • Texture removal, including popcorn ceilings
  • What are the different types of drywall?

There are many different types of drywall, each requiring different installation and repair techniques:

    • Standard/Regular Drywall — The most common type, used for typical interior walls and ceilings.
    • Moisture-Resistant Drywall (Green Board) — Treated with a mold and mildew-resistant coating, ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and basements.
    • Fire-Resistant Drywall (Type X/C) — Contains non-combustible fibers for extra fire resistance, often required by code in garages, stairwells, and shared walls with attached garages.
    • Soundproof/Acoustic Drywall — Thicker and denser than standard drywall, with layers designed to reduce sound transmission between rooms, popular for bedrooms, home theaters, and shared walls.
    • Paperless Drywall — Uses fiberglass facing instead of paper, offering better mold and moisture resistance than standard drywall without the higher cost of green board.
    • Flexible Drywall — Thinner and more pliable, designed for curved walls, archways, and other non-standard architectural features.
    • Blueboard — A specialty drywall designed as a base for veneer plaster finishes, common in higher-end or historic-style renovations.

Plaster Repair

  • What's the difference between plaster and drywall?

Plaster is a multi-layer material applied wet over a wood or metal lath base, common in homes built before the 1950s. Drywall is a single, pre-manufactured panel, faster to install but not as dense or durable as traditional plaster.

  • Why is my plaster cracking or crumbling?

Common causes include age-related settling, humidity and temperature swings, deteriorating lath behind the plaster, or water damage from a leak. Hairline cracks are often cosmetic, while wider or spreading cracks may signal a bigger issue.

  • Do you match old plaster texture and finish?

Yes. Matching the texture, thickness, and finish of original plaster is one of the most important parts of the repair, so the patched area blends invisibly with the surrounding wall.

  • Can plaster walls be repaired, or do they need to be replaced?

Most plaster damage can be repaired rather than replaced, including cracks, small holes, and areas of sagging or loose plaster. Full replacement is typically only needed when large sections have failed or the lath underneath is too damaged to support new plaster.

  • Is plaster repair more expensive than drywall repair?

Plaster repair typically costs more due to the specialized materials, multiple layers, and skill required, but it preserves the character and integrity of older, historic homes.

  • Are plaster walls common in Detroit homes?

Yes. Many homes throughout Detroit's historic neighborhoods, from Boston-Edison to Indian Village, were built in the early-to-mid 1900s when plaster over lath was the standard construction method. If you own one of these homes, chances are your original walls are plaster rather than drywall, and repairs need to account for that older construction style.

  • How long does plaster repair take to dry and cure?

Plaster typically needs 24-48 hours to dry per coat, and full curing before painting can take up to a week, longer than standard drywall compound, due to its composition and thickness.

  • Do older homes with plaster need special care during renovations?

Yes. Cutting into plaster for electrical, plumbing, or HVAC work requires careful technique to avoid unnecessary cracking, and any openings need proper lath backing and plaster-matched repair afterward.

  • Do you work on ceiling plaster as well as walls?

Yes, we repair plaster ceilings, including sagging, cracking, and water-damaged areas, which require additional support and care due to the added weight and gravity concerns.

Licensing, Quality & Guarantees

  • Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, Premier Patch Pros is fully licensed and insured to operate in Michigan.

  • Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. If a repair fails due to our workmanship or you're not happy with the finish (not new damage), we'll return and fix it at no charge.

  • What is drywall finishing?

Drywall finishing is the process of taping, mudding, and sanding seams smooth so the surface is ready for texture or paint. It's graded in six industry levels, and the right level depends on your paint sheen and lighting.

  • Should I hire a handyman or a specialist for drywall/plaster repair?

For very minor tasks, a handyman may be fine, but texture matching and plaster repair are specialized skills. A mismatched patch is visible every time light hits the wall at an angle, which is why dedicated experience matters.
